Environmental Policy And Practices
BareBurger™ recognizes the importance of conserving natural resources and the benefits of recycling and using recycled materials. And while serving organic food helps preserve the environment, at BareBurger™, our policy is to always try and do more.
Some examples of the materials used at BareBurger include:
- A ceiling made from reclaimed antique tin. All of the tin was reclaimed from deconstructed barns.
- A floor constructed with bamboo. Common species of wood traditionally used as flooring mature in 60 years, but bamboo takes only 6 years to achieve full maturation. The original bamboo plant is left unharmed in the harvesting process and quickly re-grows for yet another harvest, stopping the deforestation of rainforest.
- Custom made booth built with recycled wood, biodegradable material and low VOC adhesives.
- Wallpaper and menus printed on recycled paper.
- Hand-made lamps using reclaimed items, such as beer bottles and silverware from several NYC hotels, circa 1935. Most of the lamps have energy efficient/low wattage bulbs.
- Hand-crafted countertops and tabletops built with storm damaged and dying trees.
- To-go containers made from corn and sugarcane fibers. These resources are renewable year after year. They’re a more sustainable option than Styrofoam or petroleum based plastics.
The hot water throughout BareBurger runs thru “demand water heaters” which heat water directly without the use of a storage tank. Therefore, they avoid heat loss associated with traditional water heaters. Demand water heaters can be 24%–34% more energy efficient than conventional storage tank water heaters.
- Much of our kitchen equipment is Energy-Star rated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). These pieces use less energy and help protect the environment.
- Plumbing and fixtures in our restroom are certified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as “WaterSense” efficient products.
- Our hand dryer consumes 1400W of energy whereas typical hand dryers require 2400W of power. With infra-red technology and the absence of a heating element it uses less energy more efficiently.
- The cork tiles on the wall are a sustainable alternative to traditional wall coverings. The cork is harvested from cork oak trees by a traditional method that allows the bark to quickly regenerate, harming neither the trees nor their habitat. Cork wall tiles are naturally fire, mold and microbial growth resistant.
BareBurger™ remains dedicated to environmental responsibility and will continue to explore and adopt new ways to increase energy efficiency while limiting our environmental impact.
